Looking in the new Mac App Store I searched on ‘Bible’ to see what comes up. Only two apps: the Divine Office and the Daily Bible. The latter offers the Bible with reading plans. Then I noticed they gave the app a rating: 12+, which is the near equivalent of the USA’s PG13 rating. The Bible got this rating for the following reasons:
- Infrequent/Mild Realistic Violence
- Infrequent/Mild Alcohol, Tobacco, Drug Use, or References to these
- Infrequent/Mild Sexual Content or Nudity
Reading through Genesis the past three weeks, I would say that ‘mild’ for violence and sexual content is something of an understatement. Even infrequent seems to be a little conservative. Still, it shows that someone has picked up that this isn’t a completely harmless book! Doesn’t it seem strange that we make children’s stories form these? Or is the problem that we think these stories are primarily for them and not for adults?
